Dancing in Durban
Students at a Durban high school welcomed us by dancing during their morning assembly.

OK, so you're in the southern hemisphere which is having its winter season now. Is school in session for them now? Do they have November, December and January as their summer break? I've never given it any thought whether that would be the case or not.
Good question. I asked that question, too. What I understand is that they basically go year round. They have a longer break (roughly five weeks) around Christmas, and they have various other weeklong breaks, such as at Easter. I don’t think they ever have as long a summer break as most schools in the United States get. I learned, at one point, when students get promoted to higher grades...but I forgot. I kind of think that happens in January, though.
