PennUltimate Game

I thought I’d look back on this game for different reasons. Primarily, from my perspective, it was the fifth straight game Northwestern probably should have won – but let slip away. From a historical perspective, Joe Paterno had won his 408th game and tied Eddie Robinson for the most Division I football wins.

What no one could have foreseen was that it was the game before Joe Paterno’s final game of his coaching career.

It should be interesting to find out, this Saturday, whether Penn State can hold off the team Northwestern defeated last Saturday.

In other news, I’ll also remember this game for the fairly hideous Wildcat throwback uniforms. Someone in the end zone, where many Penn State fans were concentrated, during the game yelled, “Go, Fighting Grapes!” I didn’t know whether to laugh or hang my head in shame.
