“I need Scotch.”

Today’s word of the day was “Scotch.”

This morning I read an education article about middle school students. The memorable quote from the article was, “Middle school is like Scotch. At first you try to get it down. Then you get used to it. Then it’s all you order.”

At lunchtime, curiously enough, a middle school student wandered into my office, fresh from the ping-pong tables that are parked just outside my office door, and declared, “I need Scotch.” I never completely figured out why he needed Scotch, although I think it had something to do with repairing a ping-pong ball or perhaps some other ping-pong apparatus in disrepair. I did, however, know that he was referring to tape, rather than a beverage. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop us – or his friends – from snickering when he said it.
