I hit the road at around 0400 hours, ran farther than a half-marathon, but five miles short of accomplishing my goal. It was slow and humbling. Feeling a little dejected when I arrived at home, I turned on my computer and directed my browser to a website that I check regularly – one that gives me a few thoughts and a passage from the Bible to read. Today’s title: “Running Every Day.” It profiled a 67-year-old man who has run the annual Pikes Peak Ascent twenty times. The Pikes Peak Ascent consists of a slightly shorter distance than what I ran today, the notable difference being that it incorporates a 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) vertical climb.
My legs already hurt. My pride already hurt. This might have been one of those “You can run, but you can’t hide” situations – except that I couldn’t run either.
