
Several months ago, I chronicled the life and times of an ailing pet rodent. While Madam Jingles has long since departed this earth, her namesake, Mister Jingles (below at left), lives on and has managed progeny (below at right).


Fruit smoothies are a hot item on a North African summer’s day. I got my friend hooked on them. He especially likes the ones made from avocado, a fruit that contains fat. If my friend gains weight, we’re going to call it “fruit fat”. On a related note, I refuse to refer to avocados by their proper name, insisting instead to talk of “guacamole smoothies”. I think my nomenclature is catching on.


North Africa routinely juxtaposes opposing values and produces mixed signals. The following are somewhat emblematic.
