The website that posts openings for local teaching positions recently posted an opening for an “Auto Collision Instructor.” When I learned to drive, I seem to recall an emphasis on “defensive driving.” No one clued me in that others were receiving direct instruction in wrecking cars.
I did a little further investigating and discovered a job description for the position. The second qualification is that the candidate must “hold or qualify for licensure in the Auto Collision program.” Really? When did this happen? Last I checked, we were taking away licenses of people who collided their autos. Now there’s a licensure program for it?
But it gets more specific. The ideal candidate should possess five years of “full time work experience in the auto collision field” and “excellent human relations skills and serve as a role model for students.” No, no, NO! Someone who spent five years demolishing vehicles full time should not be influencing our youth.
These are your tax dollars at work, folks!
