Avenge of the Birds

The other day we were eating outside at a pizza place, when the folks at a nearby table cleared out and left a piece of pizza on their table. Within moments, a seagull swooped in and carried off the entire piece of pizza. I’ve been around seagulls before and wouldn’t bother to mention the situation, were it not for what I learned a few days ago.

The most senior gentleman in our group had read the “Please do not feed the birds” sign and obeyed it – sort of. While he did not feed the gulls directly, he did leave a small piece of pizza within eyesight of the watchful scavengers. Again, I’ve been around mischievous people before and wouldn’t bother to mention the situation, were it not for what I learned a few days ago.

Hungry SeagullWhat I learned a few days ago is that the gentleman in our group had loaded the pizza with crushed red pepper and that the bird sat on the fence panting for several minutes after downing the peppery contraband.

Now, see in North Africa, they'd make use of that method of stopping the gull, to make up a nice tasty pastilla...

-Still depressed all the pigeons go to waste over here
