Our morning did not start out so well. One of the two cars carrying our team to the school was rear-ended. Three team members were treated at the hospital. Two were released within a few hours, and one was kept overnight.
I was not in the rear-ended car. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. However, there is a death to report. A lady on our team made the mistake of calling her grandmother in Kuwait. Her grandmother proceeded to call her at least seven times that day (at last count) and ultimately had a lamb slaughtered on behalf of her granddaughter. The meat will be donated to the poor. It’s unclear whether the lamb was a thanksgiving sacrifice, a sin offering or something else.
We probed a bit to find out why, exactly, the long-distance sacrifice occurred. Fortunately, the lady on our team is a gem, wonderfully good-natured and willing to discuss cultural issues. Questions were more numerous than answers; it seems that sheep are kept on-hand for such occasions.
